November 20th, 2010-Welcome Molly Louise Elske   37 comments

Sorry for no post on the 19th.  The day was pretty much lost in time as Amy and I spent most of it in the hospital.

The plan was for us to arrive and Amy be induced at 11:30am.  None of the doctors thought the labor would be long and we were hoping to have a baby update yet on Friday evening sometime.  But things didn’t work out quite that way.

Induction started at 12:50pm.  Amy was presenting about the same as she did on Monday’s appointment.  With the Misoprostol, she started contractions almost immediately and they were regular enough for us to be hopeful that she was becoming more dialated.  But after 4 hours of that, she had mabye gone another half centimeter so she was not ready for any baby delivering action at all.

So the Oxytocin was started at about 6pm and Amy had another 5 hours of pretty solid, adequately  painful contractions that finally got her to three centimeters and her Dr felt confident that this would be a good time to break her water and the party would really get started.

What followed was just less than three hours of hellish contractions that rarely let up and were briefly soothed by a small dose of Morphine.  But it brought Amy to 10 centimeters by 1:40 am and she was ready to start pushing.  At 1:53am, November 20th, she brought Molly into our lives.  Molly Louise was 7lbs, 8oz and 19 inches long.  She has a little dark hair and she and Mommy are both doing very well.

Charlotte has been doing just great with Grandma Jean at our house since Friday morning.  She woke up asking for us in the middle of the night, but quickly told Grandma to lay in bed with her and that is how they spent the night.  But Grandma said she ate well, played well, pooped well and did all the things so well that Amy and I didn’t have to worry about her at all!  What a big girl she is!  And she was right-Charlotte was not interested in thinking about the possibility of a baby brother and she has predicted a girl for weeks now.
