May 6th, 2011. Day +56   8 comments

Everyone is still doing great!  Nothing ever happened with her elevated temperatures…we have checked it pretty regularly at home the last two days and she has been normal.  So the thermometer is going back in the drawer for now!  Charlotte has been a little more active each day and is starting to get back into playing with her toys a bit.  She has been on oral steroids for a couple of days.  She is not very happy with the way this one tastes, but still takes it twice a day and doesn’t complain too much.  Her blood pressures are still on the high side for her age/size so she is still getting bp medicine three times a day.  Those numbers should start to improve when she gets less of the cyclosporine (anti-GVHD).  The NP said that they might start to cut back on that when CJ is done with the steroids too so that should help.

Charlotte has her last home health nurse visit today.  It should really be more of a formality.  She is just taking another look at her, probably look at the area where her PICC line was removed, and then do some sort of discharge paperwork and we should be good to go.  Actually the nurse should be good to go since she will be at our house…  It should be another exciting milestone!  This weekend is the Columbus city wide garage sale so we are hoping for sunny weather, not windy so we can take Charlotte out for some shopping!  We might see if we can find a power wheels type vehicle that she can tool around the yard in.  I think she might enjoy it.  If not, I will have to fit into it and give it a whirl.

Thanks to all of you for your prayers and positive thoughts.  We have a long road ahead of us yet.  But when we think about where we were 8 months ago, and how far we have come, we know we would have never made it this far without all of your support.  Thank you!!

  1. The good news continues…PICC line out and home health nurse visits done! Charlotte seems to be progressing at a nice steady pace. Not too fast, not too slow. We are extremely proud of ALL of you as we reflect on the last 8 months as well. You guys have come a long way and the future looks bright for all 4 of you! 🙂

  3. What an amazing and awesome post today! So happy Charlotte is starting to get energy back, and that she’s doing so well recovering! We’ll try to keep the wind contained out here in Nebraska so you can have a great weekend outdoors! Love you

  4. You would have made it because that is who you are, we are just so proud to have been able to help in any small way. Charlotte continues to inspire so many every single day, as do her parents! Praying for many happy, happy days ahead on that long road.

We have been following Charlotte’s progress. Wonderful! Hey, Mandy called and said she had a battery powered John Deere tractor in her garage that her kids didn’t use last year. She would love for you to have it for Charlotte if you are interested. Let us know.

    Hugs to all,

  6. It is so wonderful to read good news and such great progress. Charlotte is certainly a fighter and so are her parents, along with all the prayers each day will be another step in the right direction. The blog has been super for all of us to keep in touch and we certainly appreciated it, as it must have been hard to write at times. Good Bless you all!
    Much love, from the northwoods.

  8. Your posts are so encouraging. Keep up the good work Elske family. Gotta tell ya, everytime Avery sees a green house he says there’s charlotte’s house. He’s excited to play with her when the time is right. :).
