Charlotte woke up happy this morning at 7:30.  She had a pretty restful sleep.  I think we all did.  She actually felt like eating a little first thing today so that is a good sign.

The doctors said that her numbers looked good again this morning.  The chemo is apparently working as it should.  She had a platelet transfusion yesterday as her numbers were dropping.  Her platlet count yesterday was 15,000, today it was 140,000.  So I think that is a good sign as well.  Her energy level is definitely up today.  She needed a blood transfusion today as her hemoglobin levels were getting low again.  Tomorrow the doctors expect her neutrophils to drop to below 500 so she will be classified as neutropenic.  This means she will be especially vulnerable to infections and will need to wear a mask when out of the room.  I hope she takes to it quickly.

Last night was her final night for both the daunorubicin and the etoposide during this round so Charlotte was able to walk around a little bit without being hooked to her IV.  She did make a few rounds down the halls and played in the play room for a little while.  She napped from 1:15-3:15, so a little less than usual.

I went back to work today and stopped by the room during my noon hour to have lunch with my girls.  They are both so special to me.  Amy had to leave Charlotte today as well for an afternoon pre-natal checkup.  Everything is still looking good with the new baby so Amy is doing a great job taking care of both our little pumpkins!

She spent a little time in the family lounge watching football on ESPN.  Grandma and Grandpa tried to change the channel a couple of times, but Charlotte just said “Football” so that is what they watched for a little while.  She is really getting used to our primary nurse, Katy.  She often raises her palm up and says “Katy go?” when she is not in Charlotte’s room.  Very cute from a girl that was shy around everyone here just a week ago!

She wanted another bath tonight and we had a pretty good time.  Charlotte has to wear a protective wrap on top of her port access when she bathes so she doesn’t get the surgical area infected.  She is not supposed to get the wrap very wet.  Unfortunately that means she can’t splash around a whole lot while in the tub.  So she could have a little more fun, but it is probably better that she doesn’t…

Still another good day here in the hospital.  Many unmeasurable thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Elske who have been with us every day for the last week. They are willing to go get us food and drink, keep us company, and watch and entertain Charlotte while we try to attend to the other hospital crap we need to do.  They watched her while Amy was at her Dr appointment and I at work, and never complained…Charlotte was even in a terrific mood when I got back “home” from work because of them!  Mom and Dad, thank you for everything you have done and continue to do.  We could have never done this without your love and support and comfort.  But I think Grandma will always want to be with her sweetie and Grandpa doesn’t mind chatting up to the nurses all day long!  Thank you for everything!
