Charlotte woke up about 8:30 this morning.  She appeared to have a pretty restful night.  The Dr. rounds meeting again reinforces that, according to her current bloodwork, she shows that she is responding to treatment the way the Drs want her to.  So everything is still looking optimistic.  Dr Diamond said that the results of the cytogenetic test should be back in this afternoon so she will stop and talk to us more about what the future holds for treatment and prognosis.  We are still hoping we can get a little good news from someone around here!!!!

She woke up wanting breakfast.  We ordered a couple of pancakes and sausage for her.  She ate about 6 bites…drank a little milk this morning too.

Grandma and Grandpa Elske showed up a little after that and she wanted to walk around the floor.  We made a few rounds of the halls, and returned to the room to play on the mat.  We also stopped in the play room and got a play tattoo of a frog on her arm and then went back to the room for lunch and naptime.  She had a couple of macaroni and cheese noodles and a few bites of tortilla (usually her very favorite foods), then wanted to rest for bed.  Until the fruit basket from the Bass family showed up.  They had fresh pineapples cut into heart shapes, grapes, strawberries and chocolate covered ones too!  Charlotte was excited for one of those, but only ate one before wanting to hit the hay for the afternoon.  Hopefully she eats a little better tonight.  The therapy puppies are supposed to be in tonight, so we hope that will perk her up a little bit too.

She had about a three and a half hour nap-pretty common for her.  Woke up ready to walk the halls again.  Olive Garden was brought in for all the families to eat and Charlotte actually ate a few noodles and a little bit of breadstick.  Soon she was ready to see the dogs.  She walked around for an hour often stopping to see the puppies while they were here.  She was able to pick out an item from a basket of donated home-woven handicrafts and we loved her choice.  She was wearing it proudly while she decorated her room with pictures of her cousins, her puppy, and the pet pals she had just met.

Before bath time tonight, Charlotte was excited to see her toys from home.  She was playing with them on the floor and getting ready for the bath, then accidentally stepped on her IV line and stood up, yanking the needle out from her chest port.  There was a lot of screaming and crying as we and Grandma and Grandpa held her down while the nurses removed the tape and gauze holding the needle in place.  After a few minutes of certain torture, she was able to take a bath while being completely free from the IV lines.  So she enjoyed another nice bath, but didn’t like the after party (which included setting another line in her chest).  The nurses were great and she was able to pick out a toy from the toy chest that she can call her own.  She now has a new little dump truck, and she earned it!

  14. Charlotte,

I had a GREAT time playing with you this afternoon! I’m so glad you showed me the giant flower on the floor and the super cool bath tub. Playing with you in the toy room was a lot of fun. I look forward to more tea parties, more playing catch and more hallway walks with you.

Great job eating that hot dog and fries too! I told you the ketchup was yummy! Love you much and can’t wait to see you again!

  15. Charlotte, We are praying that you have good news on your tests. Word got around at a meeting that I was at in Hot Springs, VA and many of the people are e-mailing me, sending their prayers and asking for updates. Tell Mommy & Daddy that if they need any help of any kind to let us know. We are here for you. CoCo sends his love too! Maybe someday he can come to see you. He would love that.
